I just got a 1998 4Runner 4x4 and will be adding a 3" Revtek lift. I used to have a 1999 Tacoma 4x4 with the 3" Revtek and 32x11.5 on 15x8's and really liked the setup (i.e., width, height, & fitment in wheel well). I want the same look but with the 4runner I'm stuck going in the 16" wheel direction... limiting tire size combos. From what I have been able to research on BFG, ProComp and Bridgestone websites; the only tire (close to my old 32x11.5 on 15x8 setup) that would give the same width is the 285x75 on the 16x8. Seems like the majority of people (with just a 3" susp. lift) do this. To me it looks a little "stuffed" in the wheel well. I'd rather go with a narrower tire and 16x10 rims to achieve the similar overall width and a shorter tire (with hopefully no rubbing)... Nobody I've contacted has recommended 16x10's on the 4runner and I'm wondering if its possible to do maybe a 265x70 on the 16x10's with minimal trimming and rubbing. I want to keep just the 3" lift with no added body lift. Please HELP ME... any feedback would stoke me out.

Thanks you guys but my main goal is finding a combo that'll either work on a 16x8 and still give me good tire width (as wide as the 285/75 but without quite that much height)... or... go for the narrowest tire that'll fit well on a 16x10 and thus not be TOO wide!

That 275/70/16 is like a smaller 32x11.5x16 if I'm not wrong. Think this might work on a 16x10???

I havent before but now I'm considering Super Swamper SSR's in either 32x11.5x16 or 31x12.5x16 on a 16x8.

Whats your feedback???

 

Another thing to add to the mix is the issues of backspacing and offset. Bottom line is how they are applicable to my situation: I notice that going from a 16x8 to a 16x10 usually involves a jump from a 4" backspacing to a 4-1/2" backspacing... but, the offset differs between the two.

As a general rule does this mean that the bolt at the same point and thus the 16x10 would stickout a full 2" more than the 16x8? Or... does the offset/backspacing (again as a general rule looking at Xtreme Alloys or Eagle Alloys) suck that 16x10 more into the wheel well so it does stick out a full 2" over the 16x8???

Using my old Tacoma setup as a benchmark I'm wondering if a 16x8 with 4" backspacing even lines up the same as a 15x8 with 3-5/8" backspacing? Clarification on this might help steer me in a different direction.

265/70s WILL NOT fit onto a 16x10...I tried it...

I have 16x8/32x10.50 (265/75R16) and it looks mighty fine. Im not lifter though...

 

Lift: 2.25" up front and 2.5" in the back.

4Runner OEM Wheels: 16x7 w/ 4.375" Backspacing and 265/75-16's - No rubbing and everything was fine.

Tech 1 Rockcrawlers : 16x8 w/ 4.25" Backspacing (285's rubbed on turns w/ OME 882's up front) - these wheels are 1" wider, but the backspacing is almost the same as OEM, putting the extra width sticking out, making it easier to rub in a turn.

LX450/FZJ80 wheels : 16x8 w/ 4.5" backspacing (rubbing w/ the same 285's on the street is gone - 0.25" closer to the frame than the steelies) - this is what I'm running now. I've also added a 1" Roger Brown Body Lift to get rid of the off-road rubbing issues.

I don't see how you could fit a 16x10 on a 4Runner w/out at least 5" or maybe even 6" of overall lift. Since you can't tuck the wheel any farther into the fender than a 4.5" BS, the rest of the width will be sticking out and will cause severe rubbing without a lot of work. I personally think you'd be better off staying w/ a 16x8 wheel. If you want a 32, then go with a 265/75. If you want 33's, then go w/ a 285/75 or if you want a wide 33, then go to a 305/70.

If you go above a 32 (265/75), then you have to add a body lift and do some other stuff like pounding the pinch weld (search for info) in order to clear them.

I'm convinced I'm sticking with 16x8's.

I really want the same width as my old 32/11.50/15's (11.9" because they were Bridgestone Dueler M/T's that ran big)... so what do you think about going 31/12.50/16 Swamper SSR's on 16x8's? Anyone ran this set up and faced rubb or wear issues?

I figure Revtek says you can go up to a 33/12.50/15 or 285/75/16 on 8" wide wheels so if I go with a 31/12.50 then I should be fine? The SSR is a true 12" wide though! Please let me know and thanks for the earlier info.
