got my truck winterized yesterday..

Well I called in yesterday due to a knee injury and decided to finally clean the truck back up and get it ready for the winter. I really wanted to clean all the bug guts off of the chrome front end and get a coat of wax on it! Lets see I washed and waxed the entire truck, which made me laugh, I was waxing rust holes on my bed but that’s OK, I’m on the list for a new fiberglass bed that will be installed this spring, then I’m going to repaint the entire rig after I take off the 80s cheesy stripes! I bought a can of Rustoleum flat black and a can of rubberized undercoating and went to town on the frame and floor of the cab. I sprayed every weld I could with the paint and painted the frame sides then shot the floor pans with undercoating. My truck is an 88 and the bed is toast, well the bed sides but the rest is solid as it was when it was new! I also cleaned and detailed the interior and glass. I figured within a month they will have the road salt back out and the slop. If I can figure out how to post pics I will this afternoon! I also did a full cooling system flush and fill. I am going to buy a new battery this week also, if any one has a recommendation let me know. I put the Sears Die Hard that’s in there now in back in 99 and it leaks and corrodes every month so its gotta go! I also greased the entire drive line. I may change my front diff fluid this weekend also, I changed it last year with regular gear lube and I think I want to get the full synthetic in there and see if it cuts down on the vibration I get when my hubs are locked in. Anyway I thought I would share, its that time of the year to get them ready for snow and salt!

I would go w/ an Optima red top on the battery. Mine still has the original so when it dies, thats what I am replacing it with.

Optima

I’ve heard good things about the Optima batteries. What makes them so much better than a regular battery though? Are they all deep cycle? I had a Champion battery in my car for years that came from Sam’s club I was going to pick up another one of those but if the Optima is the way to go I will try to find one! What are the benefits to one? Thanks Matt

The Optima line Blue,Red, and yellow tops are all 100% sealed, and can be mounted in any position. I.E.. on there side, upside down etc. I've had my redtop for going on 7 yrs now without a hitch or hiccup. Worth the money. I'll prolly replace the red with a yellowtop be4 the so-called socal winter hits. If yourrunning alot of aux. stuff, get a yellowtop. Like I said, I run a redtop with no probs, even when I had all my old accesories cb radio, 2k linear, my amps....you get the idea.
