Exclamation replacements for Cracked heads on 3.4 S/C'd

120376.1

I have been reading about many who have SC'd their rigs and wound up with cracked heads, but no one has said what they did about their heads for replacement. I have 105k on my 3.4 v6 motor and about 35-45k on my S/C. I had excessive fluid in my exhaust and figured I had leaky head gaskets. I took it to a friend's shop to replace the head gaskets because I'm way out of my warrantee. After careful inspection I find out my radiator and water pump have been overpressurized and i need to replace those , then I find out I have cracks in my #3 and #4 cylinders between the intake and exhaust valves . I'm reading it's common with s/c'd 3.4's w/o the help of fuel mods, correct? I have my 4Runner in my friend's shop waiting for me to figure out what to do. HELP!!!!! I don't want this to happen again (duh!!) and I'm already looking at a few grand to replace the heads (Toyota stealership $980 PER head BARE!!!#$%^... TAP $480 PER head BARE USED!!! AARGHHHHHH) I'd like to keep my motor as it is way fun to drive with, but a motor swap might cost me less than new heads, radiator water pump, URD fuel mod kit etc . Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to come up with a long term fix so I'm contemplating having it towed back to my house while I figure out what to do.

Which heads are available for 3.4L

My most urgent question is this: Can I use 3.0 heads on my 3.4? PROS vs CONS? Are they just as succeptible to cracking as the 3.4 heads? What else can I use? Are there any other companies that offer heads for the 3.4L besides TAP ($480/head) and the stealership ($980/head)?

you cant use a 3.0 head on a 3.4 block, I'm not 100% sure but i think that they have different water/bolt patterns, and also the 3.0 has one cam per head and is a 2 valve head while the 3.4 has 2 cams per head and 4 valves

Your best bet is a replacement engine off ebay or from a yard.

Cougar, I would just get a complete engine from a scrap yard or ebay and drop it in as Christian mentioned. It will be by far the easiest and cheapest route for you to take. Just getting heads will cost a fortune and you may have other parts you damaged that you will find AFTER you put the whole thing back together.

Do yourself a favor and do the fuel mods before putting the S/Cback on tho! :pat:
