Question Third gen front speaker specs

Anybody know what size front component speakers fit a '98 4Runner Limited with the factory tweeter pods? I'm mainly concerned with mounting depth for the 6.5" (or 6 3/4"? or 5 1/4"? - whatever they are) drivers, and whether an MDF baffle will fit behind the door panels if needed.

I'm looking at the CDT Audio CL-61a and EF-61 components at thezeb.com. They have great reviews considering the price. I'm just not sure how they'll fit. They run a mounting depth of around 2 3/4".

I thought I'd just go to Crutchfield and spec out my vehicle, but it looks like they aren't real big on posting numbers anymore. They just show you the speakers that they say will fit.

6.5 in front 5.25 in rear.

I run MbQuart Premiums and had to build spacers so that the magnets dont hit the glass when its rolled down. I dropped the MB Quart tweeters into the factory A pods, but siliconed them in to the pods rather than bolting them to the door per factory.

Better safe than sorry, peel off your door panels and get a tape measure

Thanks for the reply. How thick were the spacers you made? I've got a bunch of scrap 3/4" MDF left over from when I built my sub enclosure. If there's enough room behind the door panel, I plan to make a spacer out of that.

I looked on MB Quart's website at their premium speaker line. It looks like the mounting depth for your speakers vary from 2.25" to 2.72" depending on the mounting method used. If you had interference problems with the window, I'm sure I will too.

Did you use any sound deadening material in your doors? I'm thinking of buying a Dynamat door kit but don't know if it's really worth the money. That's $40-$60 I could put toward better speakers.

I'll probably take your advice and measure myself just to be sure. I just haven't had the time lately. Working for a living sucks.

Yeah its worth doing the sound deadening while your at it.... THeres alternatives to dynamat that will be cheaper. Secondskin is a good one and they support YT.com Not all of the alternatives are equal substitutes to Dynamat, so watch what you buy, see it in person. If its not dense and heavy it wont do the job right.

Inside of the Doors get moist. MDF and other particle type boards like it will be susceptible to absorbing moisture and then swelling and crumbling...

Check this out, mine was real similar.

For the front I used some 3/8 inch birch plywood (just a ring) and mounted it on top of the front door factory adapters. Cleared just enough.

In the rear I had to trim some of the plastic Door panel away on the inside to get the fit.

(nope no pictures of my stuff else Id post em)
