I'm going to buy a TJM bumper that came off a 94 pickup. Will it fit my 88 4Runner? Will I have to make new mounts?

 

You will probably have to make new mounts. I think It may actually be a bit wider too.
If I can make an ARB from a Nissan fit my first gen then I'm sure you can make a TJM fit

 

Also, I think the 94 frame was wider, like maybee an inch or so. I thought I read that in the FSM.

I got it today, and it's going to fit just fine. If my truck were stock, it would bolt right up. The TJM bumper bracket sub frame bolts to the tow hook mounts on top and bottom on the front frame crossmember. Since I did an SAS and have a new drop crossmember bolted to the bottom, I will have to cut the bottom portion of the bracket off and drill some holes through the top and bottom of the sub frame to the stock crossmember.

 

DMG had a bumper for a 2nd Gen Runner/3rd Gen Truck on his 1st Gen Runner. Looked fine.

He sold the bumpera a few weeks ago, then the 88 was destroyed in the Pittsburgh floods last week.
