How hard is it to install an alternator on a 3.0 1990 4Runner?

Mine is dead and is coming in tomorrow, so I need to know what I am up against...Is it a fairly simple task with basic hand tools or am I gonna need to let my mechanic do it?

THANKS!

Scarface,

R&R of your alternator shouldn't take but an hour or two. One piece of advice for tightening the belt. Your bottle jack fits between the block and the alternator and is very usefull for tightening the belt. Just turn the jack knob by hand so you don't put too much stress on the block. Disconnect the battery first too!

If you have the FIPK from KN for the intake changing the alt is easier than sex.

hmmm on second thought sex isnt THAT easy...hmmm ok easier than making out with a hot chick.

If you dont have the FIPK, pull the air box/AFM/silencer elbow. This exposes the alt and it's still as easy as sex.

Gee what's been on my mind lately?

Well, It was pretty easy getting it off, then putting the other one on, hehe had to break out the dremel, the new one was a VERY tight fit, I guess the paint was thick on the outside of the casing? Just used the dremel on the face of the bolt holes up top and eventually got it enough to get it in there..Works great!
