Buying Landcruiser

Ok Guys and Girls,

I have been researching Land Rovers for quite some time now. I really like the looks better than the Cruiser, but they just have too many problems. After researching sites, some Cruiser ads mention Locking Differantials. Is that something I want for sure?
I will be buying 95'-99' year Landcruiser. Any suggestions for a particular year, of course I will be buying something hopefully with lower miles too.

Thanks for all the advise.

Steve

1995-1997 have the best motors.
1991-1994 supposedly have the strongest trannys.

E-lockers can be had, but are hard to find.

Go with e-lockers if you can!

most hardcore landcruiser fans seem to shun the 98+ models...anything particularly wrong with them? or is it because they were built with luxury in mind?

Nothing wrong with the 98+ model LCs, per se...
They went to IFS (no more solid front axle) in 98. Some consider this a huge detriment. For the wheeling that 99% of the people do, the 100 series (98+ model years) will perform very well.

You'll only want locker(s) if you plan on off-roading.

98 and 99's are 100 series and are significantly different. No solid front axle. Not bad, just different.

If you are planning on doing serious off roading, then I'd get the 80 series instead.

If you just need a good, all weather SUV, then the 100 should serve just as well.

Just a follow-up post. Found my Cruiser on Ebay, had it checked out, and it now resides in the driveway. Boy she sure looks good. The ride is incredible. Yes she has LOCKERS.... Oh it's a 96' Model, two-tone gray.
