Best ~$200 6.5" component set?

Am looking to replace my old, blown Infinity Kappa 60cs components with something new.

What's the latest and greatest at less than $200? I listen to mostly rock. They'll be powered with about 100 watts per channel and used with a pair of 12" subs in a ported enclosure.

Thanks,
Ed

I dig my Infinity Reference 6.5" seperates.

If I ever replace them, I will be looking at Focals or CDT seperates.

The refers though sound very good in my rig, at least they did until I blew up my amp for them a few weeks back.

No tunes now until I get a replacement amp.

I have to admit that I haven't heard the "Reference" series yet, but I was never really happy with my Kappas. Just never seemed to be much mid-bass with them. Actually I was at Circuit City yesterday and auditioned their only two sets of 6.5" seperates. An Infinity 6000cs and an Alpine something or other. I figured the Alpine would be outshined by the Infinity and it was, in terms of tweeters and clarity... but the Alpine just gave so much more midbass at low levels that it was more fun to listen to.

I get very good midbass with mine.
I can also regulate it with the crossover built into my Sony deck.

I have it in about the middle, so I get some bass from the door speakers, but the main bass comes from the sub.

Mixed reviews above.

I play mine cranked listening to classic rock, fusion jazz, and deep house trance bass, and they have never let me down.
They are crystal clear.

I think mine are the 6000 CS models.

Mine are old though, and paper cones, which I hear sound more true than the synthetic cones that used a lot today.

Corey, "carreview.com"?

Some exerpts:

The crossover can be set up to 0 for the tweeters if -3 is too harsh on your ears. Easy to install.
unmatched by Polk or Boston, which sound screechy by comparison!!!!!
Well I'm a carpenter and I am mecanically minded but this instalation took me a full day. I ran all new 14gage speaker wire. To make it look like it was always there I had to take off both doors and then take apart my doors.
Funny people. :p

I did read some good feedback though from a couple guys who wrote like they knew what they were talking about.

I actually find those places to be pretty informative once you get past the inexperienced posters. Especially helpfull in finding faults with some equipment.

The absolute best componet system on the market today for under $200 are the POLK MOMO 6.5 which you can get off ebay for around $200 shipped. They are extreamly clear and can handle almost 200 watts and 100 watts is just about perfect.I liked the sound and clarity soo much that I bought 3 more sets for my wifes truck and my car. They sound better in my 97 taco though.

when i was looking at 6.5" i narrowed it down to the crystal mobilesound, CDT audio Classic series and the Alpine Type-x. I ended up with the alpine type-x for 180 shipped on ebay.

I personally would have chosen something besides Alpine. There are lots of choices that deliver better sound quality. If you decide to dump those, try CDT or my favorite Resonant Engineering. Check out all that stuff at www.visionaryaudio.com They have killer prices
