After having 6x9 speakers in individual boxes and various other loose box configurations in the back seat of my '91 truck, I decided to flush mount some speakers to save space. The storage boxes make great speaker locations and no space is sacrificed. I removed the door panels and cut 1/4" plywood to fit where the doors went. After running the wires through the bottom and carpeting them, my 3 way 5 1/4" Pioneers sound great.



Now I can take my sub box out and have all my space back.

lol- I'll take a pic of my buddy's '86 short cab- he's got a good sound system with some boxes he built.

 

Heres what I did with my '91 standard cab.

 

That's a good idea, on my ex-cab, I cut holes beneath that so-called seat in the rear and flush mounted them there, 200 watts of power!
A real space saver!

 

But then.. what about us with a singlecab and bucket seats??? We have even less options! Actually I've got 2 6x9's mounted in the doors and an Audiobhan Platinum 4-way 200w amp under the passeger seat.

 

Then its Time for a "pass-though bed conversion", then its all the 18" woofers, batteries and amps you can afford to stuff back there

 

As soon as I buy a 92'-95' ext'd cab 4x4, I'm really going to muck around with some type of custom installation for 2 of those 6.5" JL Audio Subs (Yes you heard it - 6.5" subs by JL Audio - if you haven't heard this already they make 'em). I'd imagine a 200-250 Watt 2 channel amp would have no problem powering 2 of these well. Maybe with a little work they might fit in a similar fashion to the installation made here. However I'd imagine your 5 1/4" speakers have a pretty shallow mounting depth?

 

Yeah- the 5 1/4's are not more than 2" deep probably- There is more room in there though, that compartment is about 4 - 5" deep I think. I wish there was a good way to have a big sub without taking up all the room. I have to take mine out in hunting season, camping, etc...

 

You might want to hurry up and get those 6.5s (6W0s). They are discontinuing the line, and probably the 6. They are unbelievable though.
