Angry blew another 10" JLWO

Well I don't have the money for too much boom so I just have one 10 JLWO sub. I've blown one and got another because it was under warranty I guess. Well yesterday I blew another one! All I have is a 200W amp pushing it, and the amp is turned down a little.
Anyway, I guess I'll buy a 10" W3 so I don't blow it again. I think they run for about $200 and the WO is around $100. Will the W3 do pretty well with the 200W amp, and what's the best place to buy one of these off the internet? I've looked around a bit, but it seems JL Audio isn't sold that much over the internet.

I don't know if he'll have the exact subwoofer that you're looking for, but his prices are absolutely awesome. I just picked up a Kenwood DPX-MP4070 head unit from him for $85 less than Crutchfield.

Here are his subwoofers.

Regards,

Brady

You could push a W6 with that amp, but it sounds like something is wrong with your setup or tuning, or just how you listen to it. Is it really distorted all the time? I have been lucky enough to not have blown a woofer, even a W0. If it isn't distorting, they will last many years, especially at that wattage. I don't crank the bass up into distortion, I usually don't have the loud button on the CD player, and if the speaker makes funny noises, I adjust the EQ or volume so it stops. That keeps them working forever. Maybe it is in the wrong box?
I would replace the JLW0 one more time. Since it seems that you like it loud, spend another $100 for one more, and build a box for two of them in the right air space. That amp would push two of them just fine. Two W0s would be louder than a W3 at that wattage anyhow.

SOmethings not turned down, your burning up your speakers with distortion. Most common cause.

You either need a bigger/cleaner amp, and/or more subs cause your trying to squeeze too much "bass" from the one speaker.

Somethings wrong. I have a 10w0 thats powered with a planet Audio 200x2 thats bridged. Its been that way for about 3 yrs now with no problem. I'd take it to a speaker shop before dumping more $$$ into a more expensive sub that you might blow.

Your probably clipping the amp. Ive seen a JL 10w1 blown 2 times with a punch 45 in 4 ohm stereo mode. Not enough power, amp pushed into excessive clipping. My JL 10w1s have lived for several years driven hard (but not clipped) by a PPI 150w/ch amp.

Distortion nor clipping will kill a sub.

The ONLY thing that will kill a sub thermally is POWER. Clipping can produce far more POWER given to the sub than unclipped, but make no mistake, a sub blows from excessive power.

Sounds to me like you are clipping it and like things loud. Therefore I suggest getting this w0 replaced and buying another w0 and then building a ported box for the pair. If you want I can build the box and ship it to you for a fee....pm

I've got the 10W0 too powered by about 280W (PPI Amp), which is over the specified JL Audio Limit. I've been pushing it for over 2 years now and its still in good shape.

What amp are you running?

Are you running the sub in a sealed box and if so is your box truley sealed if you have leaks that will ruin subs also.

Ehhhh a leaky sealed box may or may not ruin the sub.

If it's so leaky that the owner forces it into over excursion, making the coil do a tap dance on the back plate, then yeah, it can definately hurt it. But that usually takes quite a bit of abuse....
