Scofco's Trail Photos - Montana Mountain (10 photos)
Finally was able to get a chance this summer to head up to Montana Mountain, which dwarfs Carcross, Yukon.
There were alot of spots while driving, where I never stopped to take photos because it was a little hairy, but I managed to get a few at least.
Here are some of the highlight photos:

It was a helluva weekend!
Last night around midnight, thick smoke rolled in and accounted for the heavy haze you see in some of the photos.
Ruined a ton of potential photo ops
Hope you enjoyed!

Another thing which may amaze you, there was NO SIGN OF HUMAN LIFE.
That's one thing I love about trips like that. No footprints, no ground torn up, no garbage, no PEOPLE.
One family on quads rode by us around 9pm last night, other than that brief encounter, not a single soul was spotted. Nothing but the sound of the wind and the creeks to listen to.
*sigh*

Carcross, Yukon, Canada.
If UFO's interest you, one was reportedly spotted on Montana in 1988 and documented here:

If you ever do, I'll probably still be here
If you've never been this far north, it's definately worth your while.
Try to stay away from the popular places, and head into the backcountry, that is where the real experience is.

Pristine scenery shots, very cool, and the 'Runner looks great in it's element. Lucky you, plus you get all the great beers too.
Are the bears inclined to avoid the dogs? I was thinking that a Finnish Spitz, 1st cousin to the Kaerelian Bear Dog, would be handy to have around. The rangers in Glacier Park, MT, use Kaerelians on their rounds to spook the grizz away from the popular trails.

Last time I was in that area, Tikko wasn't with me and I managed to sneak up on a couple of bears. I came around a corner and there was 2 of them on their hind legs trying to figure out what was coming up the road.
I had been told before I left on this trip that there are a TON of bears up there right now, so we prepared to encounter some.
Tikko must have kept them at bay, because we didn't see a single bear. He does bark a fair bit at whatever arouses his attention, and being in the valley I'm sure it echoed quite a bit.
Bears do tend to stay away from dogs if they can help it, so they are definately handy little buggars to bring along

Nice trip, loved the Yukon on my trip on the Alcan. What's sad is that I've spent enough time living in the city now that I get a little spooked being too far in the back country without having at least one other vehicle with me. If they'd only move the company I work at into the mountains, I'd be content...
Have you guys had much in the way of wildfires this year?

Had another chance to head up the mountain again this summer, almost to the day oddly enough. I hope this becomes a routine for me every year.
Here are some recent photos from where I managed to get a bit farther into the area this year:
The area is littered with old mining camps from around 1905 that are virtually untouched, still with dishes and tables and old boots from when the miners left a hundred years ago.

Here is Rachel posing in the window.
The part that looks like the road on the left, that is indeed the road. That is the quality for most of the trip.

Here are 2 shots from one of my favorite spots. The scenery is breathtaking. It's a little hazy from the smoke from about 40 current burning forest fires around the territory right now.

I hope to update this again a year from now

Could not have put it better myself. Amen bro
As for bears, it is amazing a little 50 lb dog will make a bear run, but a 200 lb human, that is a good lunch for the bear!
for the pics .....

Scofco, yet again beautiful scenery. One of these times you'll have to go thru all your photos and pick out your top 20 or so and post them. The quality, color and overall scenery you capture is always relaxing to look at.
