More Nubie Questions...dazed and confused

Hi again,

I just came from picking up my 2000 SR5 and I have a lot of questions that I hope someone can help with.

First of all, the truck did not come with the keyless remote or owners manual, but the dealer gave me a 99 manual for free...nice of him.

Anyway first question, how do I know what remote to look for on ebay (dealer wants 208.00!!!) I have read threads about having the prodper FCC id etc. I'm in Canada, so not quite sure if the FCC is what to look for.

Second thing I find myself trying to figure out is, the power door locks only work when the ignition is in the ON position. The manual also says that the power windows, power sun roof, should work for 45 sec after the ignition is turned off, as long as the doors aren't opened....dosen't work. The doors are supposed to be able to be locked by inserting the key in the drivers door and turning the key to the lock position twice...dosen't work.

What defies logic logic for me is that everything works as long as the ignition is on, but otherwise, not.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Marty

My guess is that it's related to not having a remote. Sometimes locks act weird if the remote has been used.

I think if you turn the key twice to the right, it will UNlock all the doors.

This is the FCC id for a US 2000 4Runner: HYQ1512Y
Here's a remote

Maybe that helps a little?

Thanks for the input, I'll get a remote ASAP, but I still don't understand why the windows etc won't work just after I turn off the ignition. It says power for 45 sec.
Strange.

I think the power for 45 seconds is only good till you open a door. At least that's how it works on my 4Runner.

Yeah that's wht the manual says, but as soon as the key turns past ON to ACC, all power is gone, doors are still shut. Weird....

So I have found some more problems.

To recap, there is no power to the doorlocks at all, unless the key is in the ON position ONLY. There is no power to any devices after the truck is shut off and the doors have not been opened. Now I have noticed that there is no power going to the rear window motor or the switch that controls the rear caro light when in the "Door" switch position. It works when I turn it to ON.

It almost seems like a circuit that controls these things is not working, however all the fuses look good, and the door locks work wit the key in the on position, so I don't know what to do.

Still searching for clues...

Did you pick this up at a dealer? Any warranty? Bring it back, something obviously isn't right!

Figured it out, sorta. There is a fuse in the engine compartment labeled DOME, that controls all the functions that aren't working. I replaced the fuse and all is well....until I open te back hatch and it blows the fuse. Te dealer has to fix the door handle latch in the back this week, so hopefully this will get fixed as well...still strange though.

Thanks for all your help so far, I'm sure I'll be asking lots more questions.

Love the truck.

Cheers
