Possible 190 HP 3.0?

I RR'ed my 3.0, ported, polished heads, oversize valves, headers, Downey x-over, 2 1/4" Exh, os injectors...! Engine parts from www. toyota performance.com
Does anyone think that's w/these mods it's possible? I also used CAM2 racing fuel! I got 190 on the DYNO!
When I get my results together, I'm going to post them, until then, is it possible that I gained 30 - 40 HP w/these mods? The boys at 4x4wire say no!

What about larger Pistons?

Your improving the intake and exhaust, what about the part that makes the actual power?

It wouldn't be the strangest thing I've seen, but then again 30 - 40 hp does seem to be an awful lot of gain for the mods you listed. Think about it - circa 20 - 25% hp increase is the sort of gain one expects from adding a turbo or S/C.

I wonder how much it has to do with using the racing fuel?....

I think it is possible. It's a huge gain but I've had cars and bikes dynoed and they results are usually fairly accurate. There is some error potential due to temperature and humidity but I would say that would be less than +/- 2%. The best way to find out is re-run the test. I'll be interested to see the results. I know I'd love to have 190 HP in my 4Runner.

Hmmm with 190 horsepower at the rear wheels then thats about 220 h.p. at the crank,Considering a 5 speed will lose about 15% through the drivetrain. That would be a 70 h.p. gain at the crank if you compare it to the factory rating. A 70 h.p. gain is A LOT on a V-6 especially with just headwork and a few other mods. I could possible see 70 h.p. if you did a 30 over bore, larger pistons, head work, Cam, and all the other small stuff. But even that would be pushing it on a small displacement V-6 such as the 3.0.

if I'm not mistaken, it looks like it was just the engine, 190 crank hp, but i may be wrong

I've always looked at the crossover and the AFM and thought that those two areas were the most restrictive.

1. Did you mess with the AFM or is it stock?
2. How much oversize are the valves?
3. Stock cam?
4. Stock compression ratio?
5. What size injectors?
6. What sort of mpg are you getting now?
7. Regular or premium?
8. How much did you bore it out, if any?
9. Any ECU recalibration? I noticed different A/F ratios on the runs. I assume that's air/fuel ratios.

As far as HP and torque...look at what the 3.0 Supras are turning out. I say yes it's possible, even probable. Just need to spend some money to get it. Personally, I would have dyno'd it using the same gas you run daily to tell you what your real-world HP and torque are. But on the other hand, the racing fuel probably wouldn't buy you any gains unless you're running extreme compression ratios.

Good job...It's nice to see a practical alternative to swapping.

Don't get to excited, My truck is a POS! But I'm slowly rebuilding her and making her better. The 3 vze is rated at 150 hp @ 4800 rpm's and 180 ft/lbs of torque @ 3400 rpm's, This engine is way over rated, there's no way that a stock 3.0 could ever push that! Anyhow, with the mods I did I got 190 HP at the crank which equates to 165 at the REAR WHEELS, still not bad for the little crap I did w/o a lot of investment! I ran CAM2 for all intent and purposes! I have about $2200 into the engine, still a lot cheaper than the 3.4 swap @ >$5000!
Answers to all your questions in order:
1. Yes, I richened the AFM 1 step & that is all
2. I have no idea! I gave them to the machine shop $ said: "Do what you have to do to get me more power, he installed OS valves, ported, polished....! $600
3. Stock CAM
4.9:1
5. www.northwestoffroad.com -$419.95
6. 21-24mpg
7. 93 octane only $2.05 a GAL.
8. no, tweeking the AFM
This isn't very impressive results, but That's all she'll put out!
No lying that's as good as the 3.0 gets w/o putting A $1000 more into her!

Now I know you aren't impressed, but it's a 3.slo!!! :pat:

Now, I don't want to get you guys down... but that doesn't mean too much. If you talk to guys that dyno their cars often and are always upgrading, they will tell you that a single session of dynoing means absolutely nothing. Each dynamometer will give you different results. The only accurate way to measure horsepower gains is to do a dyno session before and after the modifications, and they should all be run on the same dyno. You might go to another dyno down the street and it may read that you have 200hp. Does that mean that you have 200hp? No, it means that there is a difference in the calibration of the machines. In that same manner, Toyota's dyno is going to read different(both for the obvious reason of crank vs RW) and the fact that they are calibrated differently. While you may actually have gotten the hp up to 190... I'd have to say that your dyno run doesn't mean much on it's own.

I'll have to agree w/you 100%! I knew I got a little more HP out of her than stock! I just want to know that I can make it up a hill w/o DSing into 3rd and pass a car and have some for reserve! Hey, I'm happy! What ever floats your boat! And, that floats mine!!
The low end on a 3.0 is awesome! Some will disagree, others will agree!

Ok...then what's your "seat of pants" intuition? I assume you drove it before the overhaul. How does it feel on takeoffs? At 70 mph on the road?

It's quick and "torqueful!" Here's an example: Everyday on my way to work I have to climb this big freaken' hill, it's 9% grade! Before the rebuild I would have to downshift to 3rd and topspeed was 40-45 mph, now I can take this hill in 4th gear around 55 mph with no problems! I can definetly feel more power & torque, It's what I feel is important, and I can feel the diff!
70-75 mph is about it on the Hwy,( I need new gears!) She starts to wind out, I have never taken her above 3500 rpm's when driving, ever! It puts to much stress on the engine, a 22re is a different story!
