Borring out the 3.0

I am now getting the block machined. It turns out that the #2 bearing went bad, and it took the rod with it. So I have the option now of borring out the cylinders and getting oversized pistons. I spoke with the machine shop and they claimed they would be able to take off 30/1000. Would this even make a difference or has anyone does this and gone larger? I already missed getting my valves oversized as I got mine back from the shop the day before someone suggested it. :pat: I would like to get as much out of this block from here on out on the rebuild. I am planning on getting the downey headers as well. Also what is the best exhaust setup that is not loud?

I searched the internet and this forum rather extensively and found little. Does anyone do this for power gains? What about for repair? I figured more folks would have done this...

In case someone has done this, what oversize pistons should I use?

Update

I did a bit of research and found that the safest and best bet would be to go 30/1000. If I go to 60/1000 there will be overheating issues, and I don't want that. If there was more experience with it in here, I may do it, but from what I gather not many folks have. So here lies my question:

What will the end result be?
From what i understand it wont even be a 3.1L. That sucks.....

I am not an expert by any means but if you are wanting to bore it out for the small increase in the displacement, I'd say it wouldn't be worth it. If you are wanting to get new pistons and rings then that's a good reason.

Try asking EB (Ted Stanwood) that question, you can raise him at 4x4wire or here http://www.engnbldr.com/

Ok here's some minor scoop on the over bore. I have a mechanic who does all my work when I am away. he has his own performance shop now after working for years at the toyota dealer. Well the old 3.0 was really hurtin for some tlc so I decided to let the guy do a full rebuild while momma was outta town for a few weeks with the kids. (perfect time right?) Well I won't tell you what I paid to get it done, BUT, The guy went ahead and had it bored 30 over and slapped in bigger pistons and rings. Well I can't wait to get home and drive it!! I guess it's runnin too sweet. I don't suppose it's a huge difference because it's bored out so much as the complete rebuild and full on custom exhaust. I could have spent yet even more money and had the intake and heads port matched and the plenum flowed. I can still have that done later on. I am now considering getting a 4mm overbore throttle body and the ecu chip tuned. My exhaust is really loud so I am strongly considering going with a Borla Catback system. Has a nice deep and throaty sound coming up from idle but quiets out nicely at speed.
