Broken receiver/ Circuit City return policy...

ok, here's my situation... I have a sony cd/mp3 receiver in my runner. Last week I hooked up an amp and sub. During installation I think I had the receiver upside down and accidently bumped it into my shifter, but not very hard. After that little bump the CD part of the receiver stopped working completley. The radio still worked fine, and every other aspect of the receiver worked too, just not the CD portion. I even tried to take receiver apart because if it just knocked a connection loose i could fix that. But after a few hours of dicking with it it still wouldn't work, so i've given up hope and decided to try to take it back to circuit city next week. But I lost the box that had all the warranty info and such in it. Now my question...
Does anyone know if the guys at CC can look up the serial number of my receiver and pull up the warranty information that way? Do I even have a chance of returning this thing?

if no i think i'm gonna post this up in classified...

I remember a circuit city commercial with them specifically saying if you lost the receipt, they could still look up your info. Might be by CC# instead of serial #, but they should be able to do it.

Yeah, they had all my purchases from three or four years back. They can search by name, phone, or address.
