Town Car takes on a Land Cruiser and loses...

I got the pics from HERE . The TC ran a stop sign and the FJ80 hit it broadside. The LC FJ80 suffered a bent tie rod, some scratches on the nose and bumper, and the ARB emblem was punched out the back of the bumper.

Makes me want to ditch my ARB and go get a brush guard for some REAL protection...

The LC had a ARB Bullbar. Obvioulsy, the TC driver wishes he had SOMETHING...

How exactly do front airbag sensors work with an ARB?

this is about the third or fourth instance of ARB and TJM bumper mutalating other vehicles with minor scratches to the other.

Airbag sensors measure deceleration, not instrusion. ARB's also have that neat little crumple mount that absorbs some of the abrupt impact.

Believe it or not, the airbag sensor is NOT mounted up front. It's inside the vehicle, in the center console behind the radio and ash tray. It measures moment of inertia. If the force is large enough, then it triggers the air bags.

Actually there are many types of sensors, and from what I know Toyota does not use accelerometers, they use a mechanical crush detectors.

My 99 doesn't have ANY sensors under the front bumper. I DOES have a silver box that's labeled "AIR BAG SENSOR" located under the radio mounted to the center "hump" behind the console and is plugged into the wiring harness.

Could be. Depends on the model I guess. I've seen plenty Toyotas though with airbags deployed even with side impacts to the front bumper. Accelerometers are directional, and would not go off in a side impact.
