Powdercoat or Paint Gloss Black Rims.
I was thinking about painting my gunmetal Jaos rims a nice glossy black but was wondering if powdercoating would give the same effect. I would want the rims to look like HRE black colored rims and thinking powdercoating would be worth it. Does anyone know how much that would cost. This guy goat the centers of his Blitz 03's powdercoated black here and they look good.

And, as told in another thread, if you decide to get them powder coated and they are alloys be sure to use a low temp method. It seems as though the high temps involved will degrade an alloy wheel and can cause them to break.

powder coating
Hi, I just had the wheels on my 69 VW camper powder coated and they look GREAT and it only cost me $45 each, that included: a trip the the sand blasters, etching, powder coating in parking meter silver and clear coat. Cant be beat for the price. I had mine done at High Tech Powder Coating in Boonsboro Md, if anyone needs any contact info for those guys let me know, the turn around was less than a week and they can have color matched pait mixed to match your plastic centers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The powder coat is TOUGH, the guy that owns the shop took some ones old Corvette valve cover that he had just finished and asked me if I had a quarter, I handed it to him and he tried to gouge and scratch the surface and not a scratch, I was sold!!!!!

Powder coating definitely is alot tougher than paint and about 5 shops have quoted me $40 per wheel...just gonna have to do it 1 at a time I guess (so I can drive in the meantime). hehehe

I will have some new pics up soon. Been changing up my runner quite a bit, and after the 37" Toyo M/T's go on tomorrow, I just have some more fender shaping and painting left.
As stated by the majority of you, powder coating your wheels will be awesome. We put 2 layers of black and 2 layers of clear on mine, and not only do they look great, they are as hard as a rock cause that stuff is so dense.
If you can get a quote for $40 a wheel as someone else mentioned, jump on it! I had to pay way way way more than that for my 22's, but that is most likely why.
Pics coming soon.

I did find a couple other sites but can't locate them, if I do I'll post them.

I used to powder coat for over a year and you can do some crazy stuff with it. Low temp powders are made to cure just as good as high temp powders and the material don't degrade or warp while in the oven. However you can back a 400 degree cure powder off to 375 and add an extra 5-10 minutes of cooking time to achieve full bake. I worked for a place here in Jax that had a good set up but that company don't even have a clue to what the hell they are doing now since I left. Nobody pays attention to detail like I did they just slop it on and bake it. anyways...don't know any places in GA but I do know of a good place here in Jax called Atlantic Powder Coating. He has a blaster and powder coating set up.

I've been wanting to get mine done for a while now... It's just that longer i wait, the more rockrash they get. I don't even know if it's worth it now. Do you guys know how powdercoating does with big scratches and such?
If I can do it for $40 a wheel, I might have to go through with this...
