Well my 4runner looks pretty much stock, only thing I've done is take off the running boards, put some A/T's on, and threw a K40 antenna on top. Anyway, I passed a 4runner very similar to mine the other day, and it had a bug shield on the front, mine doesn't. I thought it looked pretty good and gave a little more aggressive look to the rig. Now I know everyone has their bumpers and brushguards, but what's your opinion on a simple bugshield?

 

I run one, they are great for keeping rock chips off the front of your hood, and also protect the windshield to some extent.

It blends in pretty good with the ARB bumper.

I am on my second one. My first one got to be 13 years old and cracked in half so I got a new wrap around Lund bug shield. The rubber stop things that hold up the back of the shield on my original one fell of a long time ago so it rubbed the paint off along a part of the hood so I had to get a new shield to cover the bare strip up.

 

I have a Lund and it's one of those that sits fully away from the hood so it'll never rub. It does sit kinda high but it's still formed to the front and IMO looks great but some people like the low to the hood designs better which I like too but I don't like the bumpstops you have to use on the hood.
Mine also has enough room to clean and wax behind it very easily as your whole hand fits behind it with no problem.

 

I have an interesting comparison for you.

My 1996 4Runner: No bug shield, 80K miles, windshield hammered with pits and dings.

1996 4Runner I just bought: Bug shield, 89K miles, windshield is nearly perfect.

BTW: I know the owner, so I know he did not have the windshield replaced.

Looks like they work really good! It's a Toyota part BTW.

 

I'd go fopr the EGR, especially if you have a silver or light colored runner.

No bumpers to attach, and attaches to factory holes under the hood. The style also lets you fit a wash mit right under it when you soap up your truck.

 

I like it, but a little to fancy for my taste, looks great on your rig though. I'm thinking just a plain black.

 

i have a lund interceptor ... it's awesome. the rubber fasteners got torn up recently, and all i had to do was email lund from their website, and some nice guy there offered to send me out a new set of screws/fasteners/hardware.

 

another vote for EGR - mine is dark smoke

 

I have the Interceptor model also and it is high profile but molds to the contours of the hood very well. A vote for the Lund since it doesn't seem like a common choice.

 

I have the one from Performance Products. It is low profile, so it doesn't touch the hood, looks really good and saves the windshield. Look in my signature for picture.
