Short wheelbase, large engine for its size, good ground clearance, the total absence of plastic parts that can break, and it adheres to KISS (keep it simple stupid). As the Landcruiser progressed through the years they have become more refined, heavier, loaded with options, and to some degree, less off-roadable.
