I still am having trouble understanding the intake silencer mod.

I don't mean to sound stupid, I guess thats alittle too late, but I only have 2 hoses. 1 coming from my silencer and into the engine, and 1 coming from the silencer and into the PSP. None of the pics I have seen look like anything to what I have. I only have one hose from the box to the FPR and 1 hose form the box to the PSP. I don't understand the usage of the T's. Please help an illiterate 4runner brother out. I"m only 19 and I'm still learning!!! heh. thanks for the time!

A 97 SR5. I have the 2 Tube Silencer. One coming from the PSP and one coming from the FPR. These are both connected to the silencer. These are the only tubes I need to be concerned with right?? I just need to get these connected so instead of 2 tubes, I have one single tube connecting the PSP to the FPR?

No...

You want the PSP and the FPR to share the vacuum from the Intake manifold.

Thats if I understand it correctly.

Okay I know what to do w/ the tube that is in the upper right hand corner of the silencer. But what about the 2 tubes that I now have left over that are connected to the PSP. I don't know the terminology so you may have to explain it quite a bit.

Quick Question

Sorry, I noticed the silencer mod, just curious what year and models this applied to. I have heard talk of it for 4runners, but does it apply at all to tacomas. Just curious.

It can be adapted for the Tacos

Here's the write up.

Read both pages, but most of what you need is on page 2.

Enjoy!

Hey Dr. Z,

I just want to recap the whole thing really fast.

Rid of all 3 boxes

TEE goes on Intake Plenum

FPR goes to left side of TEE on the Intake Plenum

PSP that went to Silencer now goes to the right side of the TEE on the Intake Plenum (I'm curious about this one, looking at the Picture with the Cirlce on the 96 4runner, I noticed that the tube connected on to the right side of the TEE is coming from the opposite direction of the PSP, am I missing something here or what?)

onward we go...

The remaining PSP tube goes into the MVAP line via another TEE.

Is this all correct, cuse I'm alittle shaky on that one part.

thanks

you konw what i think would solve this problem..if someone made a short video of doing the T setup...everyone knows you have to take the boxes off and put a pipe there..it seems that the T's are what everyone is confused about...someone should tape themselves doing the T connection and upload it...that would SOLVE everything..do one for 3.0 engine, 96-98 and 99 and up....???

Close Glass, but not quite.

The PSP hose that is currently attached to the plenum goes to the right side of the TEE on the plenum and the FPR hose goes on the left. The PSP hose that is currently attached to the plenum stays attached to the plenum.

The PSP hose that is attached to the silencer gets TEE'd into the EVAP Line.

Got it?

That's it!

I don't mean to get more confused, but currently everything is stock. Now i currently have found that a PSP tube is already hooked to the Plenum. So how could you have a TEE that has the FPR and then the PSP tube that was on the silencer, and then have the PSP tube that was on the plenum go back on to the plenum. I have 3 connections and I'm trying to fit 4. I'm lost again. damn. I know its easy as hell, but for some reasons the pic and the wording just are making sense to me. I'm sure alot of other people are going through the same thing. I'm not clueless but I'm having a difficult time picturing all these connections.

Let me think back here

Silencer box has 2 connections.

1 end of tube to the FPR
1 end of tube to the PSP

another Tube that is connected to the Plenum goes to the PSP aswell.

2 connections on the PSP and 2 connections on the Silencer.

Buy a 1/4 TEE, disconnect the PSP from the Plenum and slap on the 1/4 inch tee. GREAT! now connect the FPR to the left side of the TEE that is now connected onto the Plenum. Doing this I should now have 2 tubes left over. The tube the USE to be connected to the Plenum (which has now been replaced by a TEE) and the other PSP Tube that USE to be connected to the Silencer box. The PSP tube that use to be on the silencer box now goes to the RIGHT side of the TEE. (which is where I'm confused) and the other PSP based tube that USE to go onto the Plenum now splices into the EVAP Tube using a TEE.

mY GOD I"M SO CLOSE!! What is it!

Do I also have to buy more tubes besides the TEEs?

oh wait hahaha, I got it now, I had to read it like 10 times. So I switched it around,

PSP line that goes to silencer, THIS IS THE TUBE that gets spliced into the EVAP line. the Plenum PSP tube goes to the right side of the TEE thats is now connected to the Plenum. RIGHT??

Okay I got my plastic vaccum tees. I don't understand how the 1/4 will fit over the Plenum and stuff, it looks too small. As well as the 3/16 EVAP TEE. Did I get the wrong sizes?

Um...yea just and update, none of the TEEs fit. What sizes do I need exactly for the Plenum and the EVAP hose? 1/4 won't fit the Plenum and I'm going to try that EVAP hose yet.

Too small? You need 3/8" for the evap line. This should be a nice tight fit.
