Parking Lot Attendant = Clutch Death?

Last week a parking lot attendant tried to go up a steep incline from a stop with my 87 4R in 3rd gear. Instead of pausing and shifting back into first, he floored it and overrevved the truck up the incline. Needless to say, I was pretty upset when he pulled up to me. My clutch smelled like it was burning for at least a half hour afterward. I spoke with the garage manager the next morning (I park there everyday). I didn't think there was any lasting damage, but now I am not so sure. The clutch has less than 25K miles on it, but periodically this weekend, the engine would overrev when I took the truck out of second gear to downshift-- almost as if the throttle were sticking. Could this be a sign of clutch damage? It was an accident on the attendant's part-- he didn't speak English and tried to set the handbrake by pulling back on the 4wd lever), but I'm starting to do another slow burn about his screw-up and want to know if there is any connection between what he did and my new troubles with the eengine overev. Many thanks in advance.

H.

So your engine continues to rev up after you depress the clutch to shift? If that's the case I don't think it will have anything to do with your clutch, that would be related to engine intake, either fuel injectors are clogging, or maybe your gas pedal is sticky.

Bummer man.,
I pity those of you who have to have attendants park your rigs.

No one, and I mean absolutely no one will ever drive my rig, unless I am with them.
The only one who has ever driven my rig is my 17 year old (youngest son) when he was 15 up in the mountains while wheeling.

i agree with not letting anyone drive my truck EVER. i trust my best friend and my brother to it, but that's about it. i would rather park my own vehicle and walk farther than have a valet park it.

I agree with all you guys.

Let's just say that I valet'd cars and I was a lot attendant. Yes, I can verify that they thrash cars. Sometimes purposely.

i let coworkers drive my truck... they drive like i do, which basically means they thrash their own cars, well i figure, they probably cant do any more damage to it then i already do to my truck.... but i know they know how to drive, so i am not worried when they borrow it.....

I'm with Corey,i never let anyone drive my stuff. If i break it , i can only blame myself. But if someone else drives/rides(motorcycles)and all the sudden somethings not right,i know where the blames going( even if it's not there fault.

I appreciate the helpful responses, and am relieved that the periodic overrev is probably not related the the truck being forced up an incline in third gear. The lot where I park-- and have to park-- is pretty good about handling cars, and a lot of high end ones, too. Still, I dread taking one of my other vehicles to the lot. It's an E300 Diesel. With glow plugs. Try explaining to an attendant that he has to let the glow plugs cycle before turning the ignition. My job is stressful enough. Now I stress when I park and then pick up my car or truck each day. Oh well, I'll deal. The attandants are all from Ethiopia, and a very nice bunch of people. Some of them need to know how to drive just a little more carefully. After last week, all I keep thinking about is that scene in Ferris Bueller where they park the friend's father's Ferarri in downtown Chicago... Thanks again, H.
