hi everyone, this is my first post so forgive me. I have a 1992 yota pickup and I just got a superlift 4inch ifs lift kit for it. has anyone done this lift or any other 4inch ifs lift? if so any pointers or tips/hints would be great. i looking to install it with a buddy this weekend and i was wondering if a weekend was enough time? I donno, any info would be great, thanks

I wouldn't plan anything for the rest of next week if I were you, just in case. I did mine myself and it took me a weekend and a weeks worth of nights to finish. But I did have a lot of rust and seized up bolts and all that good stuff. This was the first time I had done anything like this, so it took a while being a learning experience.

You also might need a good cutoff tool, grinder, big hammer, ect.... Before you go on any parts runs, make sure you get everything taken apart and laid out so you know what you need.

Get plenty of penetrating oil and grease.

Any other questions just let me know, I'll tell ya everything I can remember.

 

My and a buddy did mine in a week.

Do you have air tools? That helps so much, especially the ratchet. I found there are lots of hard to get to bolts. Otherwise just take your time, it's not technically difficult, just time consuming.

You probably know you need new rims or already have them. If you have ever thought of replacing ball joints, tie rods, etc.. now is a good time to do it.

if I were to use 2inch wheel spacers whill that allow me to run my stock wheels for awhile?

 

You can use the 2" spacers and it should work fine, but even if you run 31's it still going to look a little funny. The spacers will be a good thing because it makes the base of your truck wider, which means less chance of rollover. I'm running 2" spacers and like it.

Air tools are like gold.

 

yeah, im going to run 31's on my stock rims(what i have on my unlifted truck right now) for now untill i have enough money to upgrade.

 

Oh yeah, that's plenty. You only need an inch. Or, you have to run really skinny tires.

I did my first 4" IFS in a weekend, there were two of us. (It wasn't my first lift, just my first IFS.) Then a couple of evenings finishing up details. I did my 2nd one in a weekend by myself, again a few extra days to finish up. But then, nothing was particularly stuck or rusted up (hardly ever see rust here unless you're on the coast) and I use air tools. It's no harder than a spring lift, except some of the front bolts are a bi*** to get a wrench on during the dissassebly... the hardest part was breaking loose the upper bolts to put in the A-arm drops.

 

You're right, it wouldn't have been too bad if I hadn't had so much rust and siezed up bolts. With all the beating, banging, and cutting to get all that stuff apart. Also, it being my first time and a learning experience.

When you put it together and ever want to take it apart for any reason..... anti-sieze is your friend.

I would soak all of the bolts with P/B blaster every night for a week before i tried doing the lift it will make life alot easier.

 

did the same lift, only problems were 2 of the cam bolts were siezed up in their bushings, and ended up having to cut them(about 15 sawzall blades later) and replace the cam bolts and bushings. also did the hole lift with regular hand tools,
