Well last night while at work I was wondering how the hell I could afford to get new shoes for Blue in time for Satudays mud bog competition in Lake Chelan Washington. Not more than an hour later a buddy came in and asked how much I would sell my Wild Country TXR's for. We were in talks months ago on this and we agreed on $350 but he offered $275. I was thinking this might all come together yet in time for Saturday. I ended up getting him to pay me $325 for my TXR's. Well upon getting down to the tire shop to pick out my new shoes I fealt like a kid in a toy store. The salesman showed me Toyo's new OpenCountry MT's. They are bada$$ tires. He showed me flyers and told me about the previous 8 sets they just sold. Not to mention an instant rebate I could get of $15 off each tire. So I said what the heck, put em on. Here they are. Oh yeah they are 35X13.5's.

 

the envy is killing me blue!!! and it will be this way for time to come... until that is, my rig is up on your level...

Thanks buddy, I only planned on getting simple RVT's or MT's not $200+ each tire. I just spent $1000 on tires. But if I do good in the comp there are cash pots & trophies. Ive never competed on any level with my rig so this should be interesting. Any tips to mud bog drags?

But other than the simple things, what else. Whats a good shifting pattern for an automatic. I was thinking 4 low & drive with 2nd & 1st as my back up. There is also a tug O war comp I will compete in. Im so stoked!

perhaps maybe dont go directly downt he middle...maybe try to atleast get one side on somewhat solid ground....


as for the tires...those look awesome. kinda resemble the MTRS imo

 

Looks good Blue. I'm sure there will be some rigs with heavy duty HP, but you'll have a lighter rig, so with some momentum maybe you can skate across the top withouth getting bogged down too much. Don't forget to keep your windows closed, and have a bunch of towels in the car to get all that mud out! Maybe you could attach some water skis to your skid plate?

 

Blue: Go to toyo.com and get the rebate form. Looks like you may be eligable for up to $125 in mail in rebates for your new rubber....

Too bad they only make them in 15", 18" and 20"...

 

These tires go for $240 each right now, that comes out to $960 before tax & mount/balance charges.
I got the $60 instant rebate from Les Schwab that put me at $900
Then I got $325 for my old TXR's and that put me down to $575
Then I got $150 for my un-used TXR spare that I paid $160 for, now at $415
And I had $100 cash ready to put down aswell, so after tax & MnB I was out the door with tires for $500.

 

As far as mud bogs go, tire speed is the key. Ideally, you need enough power to fly through the mud pit in 4 hi, but the 3 liter won't have it probably. But, you will have a blast for sure!

Are you guys talking in terms to having 35X13.5s with 5.29 gearing or smaller factory sized tires? Bog Comps are tomorrow morning and my plan is to be set up like this:
*10psi in the tires
*Pull the 35" spare off the a$$ end to lighten the load
*Run in 4high & 2nd gear (automatic trans)

Sound like a plan?

 

You probably will never make it out of 1st gear, but good plan otherwise. Just mash it to the floor and hang on tight!

Right, but even though you put in 2nd gear, you'll start out in first anyway, and then if you can get enough wheel spin up it might shift into 2nd gear and not go any higher.
