idle problem finaly diagnosed

i found the idle problem on my 87runner.
it is the alternator! i pulled the thing out yesterday to Check on the brushes... (what brushes?!?!?!) the stator (Spelling) is ground into where the brushes make contact and it has places at one of the contact points of Arking (burn spots) but good news for all of us with the 60 amp alternator.. the 90-93 celica with the 4afe and corrolla with the same engine have the same alternator but with a different pulley. can you guess my next step? the pulley is off of the celica alterantor and tonight it is time to do the one in the truck!!!! but by me swithching to good brushes on a bad stator i can feel a difference in the responsiveness and the idle.

wish me luck on the pully removal!

Find someone with an impact wrench. My local NAPA pards store has one for changing pulleys as some alts do not come with one, or may have the wrong one installed.
