Question tourqe converter service

i have the auto trans out of my 95 v-6 x-cab 4x4 p/u because of a rear main leak.changed the seal and was wondering if i should drain and refill the tq converter while the trans is out.if so how much does it hold.i am planning to flush the trans after it is reinstalled.the truck had trans problems when i got it(would not shift into o/d)along with various other problems.i've only driven the truck twice, once when i bought it and again after i fixed a water leak(waterpump).on the second trip it seemed to shift into o/d fine.anyway we'll see when it's back together.

It can't hurt, but because of design, you won't be able to get all the oil out. Maybe about 70%. Just follow the refill directions for the trans after you reinstall. If you drain the trans pan, you will need about 7-9 quarts of fluid to refill. Make sure you use the right fluid for your unit, check the manual.
