I'm in the process of buying a used Landcruiser maybe a 92 or 93 with about 160,000 plus in mileage. Is there anything I should know or do when I see the rig. What should I look for that will tell me it still has plenty of life in it. Most likely this transaction would be with a private seller. Any advice on this would be highly appreciated.

The ones I have are the 40 series and the 1997 80 series.

I think the '93 got an upgraded engine so you may want to consider that when your looking. And I would get one with the locker.

 

Yeah, mine has the upgraded engine and the transmission, but no lockers. I looked when I was buying mine and didn't realize how hard they were to come by

 

definately go with the 93, mine is a 95 as well with no locker, however all LC's after 93 were wired with the stuff to do it, just not the "hard" wear so it is possible to retrofit one with the equipment. 92's are slow and kinda like the 90-95 4Runner, a little under powered thanks to the 3.slow engine. The land cruiser basiclly did the same thing going from a 4l to a 4.5l engine....

 

If you want to buy me a ticket to FL, then home from where you live, plus gas, I will drive it cross country for you. but, I'm not an insured delivery person, and you don't know me from jack, but it could save you $10-$20.

Looks as if you already have a 1994 FZJ80, unless this thread hasn't been updated and your avatar has.

Anyways, if you already have a 1994. Then looking for a 1992-93 should be the same. Although, I would go with at least the 1994. The transmission is stronger. And you have the 4.5l inline 6cyl. But, if you can, and you should. The lockers are THE ONLY way to go. You will seriously regret if you don't get them. And contrary to what people may say, it is quite costly to add the electronic lockers to a vehicle that doesn't have them. About the same price as having ARB lockers installed, plus some.

Well I bought my 94 just last week ago. You are right about the lockers, I regret not getting them.

 

Biff, how's the gas mileage on your 94? I've heard that while the engine is strong, it treast gas stations like an all-you-can-drink buffet.

 

I had a '91 LC and loved it except for two things. The gas mileage was horrible (11 mpg) and it was slow as a dog. Conversly, I felt like I was in a tank, did awesome offroad - even stock, and was very comfortable even off road.

 

Not bad about 18mpg, better than my sc 4runners 15mpg
