Jake brake kind of sound when I slow down

I’ve got a 2nd gen 6 cylinder SR5, and while it accelerates without issue, I’ve been noticing that the engine sort of chugs when I first take my foot off the gas and decelerate — the tach will warble a little, and it sounds kind of like a jake brake. The other day on the highway going about 90 km/h the same phenomenon happened but at a much faster rate, i.e. it chugged/warbled so quickly that it manifested as just a strong vibration. I was talking with my parts guy and he thought it might be some bearing around the front diff but that didn’t really track for me. Anybody else have any experience with something like this, or a vague idea of where I should start looking to diagnose? For some context it needs a new O2 sensor which is in the mail + I sometimes get an error code for a transmission solenoid that my mechanic couldn’t find an issue with. Many thanks in advance for any wisdom anybody’s able to share.
