Clutch stopped working a month ago.
Added fluid to reservoir stated working again.
Failed again, reservoir full.
Which cylinder typically fails, master or slave ?

 

You can get AISIN master and slave (or other brands) pretty cheap. Just replace both if they're old. You still need to find the leak. Check and or change the hose too and be done with it.

Michigan has very cold weather.
I have to guess which cylinder failed can only work outside for a few minutes.

 

I checked ebay tracking three times today watching my new cylinders moving slowly across the frozen tundra of the northern states.
Thinking about the cylinders today my guess is the slave cylinder and hope I am correct.
I've had my truck 28 years, original owner came to me 28 years ago and said you should have this truck (he was selling) best vehicle I've ever had.

 

Cold sucks. I grew up in Buffalo. That's why I live in AZ now. And it's actually cold here now. Anyway, the slave is definitely easier to change. Easier to check for the leak too. The soft hose is a common failure after all these years too. I hope you get it fixed and please follow up when you do. Dead end threads suck.

 

Checked tracking this morning, master should arrive today, slave still traveling.
Years ago we went backpacking in the grand canyon, stayed in Phoenix two days, was 80 when we left, flew into blinding snow storm in Chicago, 25 degree, many accidents and cars off the I94 highway.
I will report on my snow bound repairs.

 

Have not received slave cylinder, tracking stopped on January 28, if nothing comes today will order another cylinder.
Stuck at home, went with neighbor to grocery store.
Will report when parts arrive.
Not sure what happened, possibly truck accident or truck fire.

 

The master cylinder is more prone to failure in hydraulic clutch systems. Inspect it for signs of leakage, corrosion, or damage, and consider bleeding the system to ensure no air is trapped.

 

I had a 1967 vw beetle from 1972 to 1976 when I went to college.
Unreliable, needed repairs every month.
It broke down in January or February every year, I would lie in the snow and try to fix it but it was so cold I had to give up and walk to school until warmer weather in March.
I was having flashbacks today lying under my truck installing clutch slave cylinder.
Much better today then back then, stayed warm, my pants got wet.
Truck is running again, very happy about that.
My 92 truck is the best car/truck I have ever had, not as reliable as it used to be.

Even these awesome old Toyotas have their limits. You got your money's worth from that slave cylinder. Your flashback gave me a flash back of swapping a transmission in an old Buick in the snow and blowing wind on a gravel drive in a Buffalo winter. Michigan is even colder. Yuk.

Glad you got it fixed. Thanks for updating your thread. Just keep picking away at whatever parts start aging out and drive the wheels off it. Maybe grab that soft hose for warmer weather.
