Surely I'm not the only one with this problem. Looking at the underneath side of the hood on my 88 pickup, seems the hood bracing struts have become unglued from the hood itself. Some kind of heavy duty adhesive was used to hold them together, and has failed. Images attached. So WHAT substance is used for that purpose? Anyone have first-hand experience gluing it back together? Would appreciate advice! Thanks.
Yes, this is common in these older Toyota trucks. On my 95 pickup I used Permatex “the right stuff” to glue the frame and hood panel back together, and added some extra in there to keep it solid. My hood was starting to squeak and make annoying noises at times. Now, any RTV type material would work.
I used the special 3M two part stuff which is comparable to the original. The autobody supply store loaned me the gun that dispenses it. By “special” I mean expensive.
