Loose Shifter Rattles on 1989 Pickup (Automatic Transmission)
I have an 89 Toyota pickup with an automatic transmission, so the shifter is mounted on the dash near the steering column. I've noticed over the last few years that the shifter itself has gotten some play in it and it vibrates/rattles noisily if I'm idling or hit a bump in the road.
Nothing else wrong--it shifts 100% without any problem & if I just rest my hand on it, it quells the vibration completely. After popping the hood & nosing around a bit, I get the feeling there might have been a rubber bushing or collar somewhere along the linkage that has deteriorated or gone missing and is allowing it to rattle more than it used to.
Any ideas on what to look for? Thanks!
