2nd gen 4runner advice on body swap.
Background: Currently own a 1991 5spd 4wd 3.4 swapped 4runner drives like a brand new car, and the interior is in almost perfect shape. The bad: I bought it off the original owner and the car spent 20 years in north dakota. Its rusty. I want everyones opinion on how i should go about this. Ive done some hunting locally and looked at a couple rust free 2nd gens with blown 3vz’s and they all have just been too far gone interior wise. (Im trying to make a perfect 2nd gen lol) and they have all been autos so im wondering if I can take a clean auto and swap my whole setup over easily or do I need to find a diamond of a mint body 4wd manual truck. (Also would have to pay the manual trans tax). There is a beautiful lower milage perfect paint auto a couple of hours from me for a lil bit more than they are worth but. Is it that much harder going from auto to manual?

The frame of mine actually doesnt have any rust suprisingly! But the body is about done for if i push to hard on the front of my rear fenderwell ill put a 5in hole in it. And the manual trans tax is just 4runners that have manual trans are worth about 2-3k more in my area.

I've done it , and worked out well .
If you have a hoist , makes it just that much easier .. 3 days with 2 of us working on it .
swapped most of the interior as well

Does anyone know if I could swap my motor and trans and front suspension to a 2wd auto frame?
the 2wd im looking at is a ‘95 and mine is a ‘91 if that makes a difference

I have no idea if frames are identical or not.
The 4wd has extra circuits that go to ecu, and also detectors and vacuum actuators. I think many that go solid axle delete or ignore most of that. Might be an excellent time to consider that.
