1993 4runner 3VZE
Was swapping out a new TPS and now started throwing code 41.
I'm thinking I may have twisted a wire loose in the wiring harness/connector or the brand new TPS I got isn't working correctly (doubtful, but this things has been suspect since day one - OEM Denso) .
Thought I would start with the connector and see if that fixes it.
Question 1. - Anyone know if the TPS connector/plug for the 22R is the same as the 3VZE?
The plug looks the same, but doesn't list as compatible.
I can find new connectors for 22R, but not for 3VZE.
Question 2 - I'm not very electrically inclined, but is it possible to push the pins out and redo them? If so, what's that process look like?
Q1: The 22R is carbed, so it doesn't HAVE a throttle position sensor. At least my pickup doesn't. A more modern 22R might well have one I don't know about. If so, make sure the wires from the TPS go to the exact same places the 3VZE TPS wires go. If not, you can either move them around to match, or check to Wiring Diagram to ensure they go to the correct places for a 22R.
Q2: Yes. Just push the wire into the plug firmly. If you don't have the kit for pushing, and setting/resetting pins in a plug, a small pair of needle nose pliers to grasp the wire as near the pin as possible and push it firmly into the plug, until you feel a "click", work very nicely.
The last 5 digits of the part # should be embossed on the connector then you add I think is 90980 to the front of the prefix. Can try looking up the connector that way.
The terminal inside a connector are locked in place with a tab on one side. You need to slide something fairly thin down the side of the terminal and push the tab flat so the terminal can slide out. Then pry the tab up a bit when you reinstall. They sell a tool for removing them, or you can make one.
