Engine and gearbox installation on-90 4wd hilux
Engine and gearbox have been removed and repaired on an old -90 4wd hilux and no we are going to put them back in place.
The car is on tarmac and only lifted 4" so we could get wheels of and gearbox had room to come out under the frame.
Is it easier to put gearbox in place and hanging from the rear in the crossmember and using an jack to adjust it in front end under clutch house and then lift engine into place and connect it to gearbox.
ENGINE OR GEARBOX FIRST WHAT IS EASIER TO CONNECT ENGINE TO GEARBOX OR GEARBOX TO ENGINE.?

If you have a sturdy enough engine hoist setup, you can remove the rear crossmember and drop the front diff down (axles still connected) and install the engine/trans/transfer in one piece. You’ll have to remove the hood.
Otherwise the best secondary option would be to install the engine first, then the trans from underneath.
First option is the easiest, but it all depends on what kinda hoist you got. If its just a cheap parts store cherry picker then it probably wont work, but if its a much larger, heavier one or a gantry with a chain fall then it’s definitely the easiest way.
