Power issues

So recently purchased an 1986 4 runner. Previous owner stated engine and transmission were rebuilt 5k ago. But when I take off in 1st gear, I really have to give it some gas. It's like it has no power? Any ideas or suggestions?

Does it still have the 22RE in it or has it been carb-swapped?

It has the 22re. Just trying to figure out if I have a bad tps, bad clutch or other issue. Loaded it on a trailer yesterday and had to really ride the clutch to get it on there

Usually a tps malfunction won't rob that much power. You might have a fueling issue. Fuel supply, fuel injectors, etc.

Previous owner said he replaced the fuel filter recently don't know about the injectors. Which fuel filter and injectors are recommended?

I'd recommend removing the fuel filter carefully. Try not to spill all the fuel out of it. Then get a pan and blow backwards through it and exhaust the contents into the pan (blow in the outlet and force it out through the inlet). If you get a lot of trash then you know you have a contaminated system. Its possible the old filter may have passed trash onto the fuel rail and injectors. If you discover this, you will probably have to remove the injectors and clean them out as well. You can pull the inlet screens out of them if you're careful and clean them out. Then flush the injectors with carb cleaner. I usually put them in a vice and then attach about a 6" long piece of 3/8" fuel hose to the inlet using a hose clamp. Then I fill that section of hose with carb cleaner. Then I hook up a switched 12v connection to the injector and pressurize that hose with an air blow nozzle via my air compressor - whilest switching the 12v to activate the injector. This will allow the carb cleaner to be forced through the injector and will clean it out pretty thoroughly in most cases. If you find that it's stopped up, you can put the hose on the discharge end of the injector and repeat the process in the reverse. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've had good success both ways.

If the injectors have ever sat for long with water in them, though - they don't always make a recovery because they get rusty internally. Usually ruins them.
