Wrong lubricant in 94' Pickup Automatic Transmission Transfer Case

Hi all. I recently had a single episode of the transmission slipping, several times disengaging then engaging again, repeat. It was a recent cool morning. In the past couple of years, the speedometer has dropped out occasionally, mainly in Winter, and was on the list of things to fix.

I changed out the fluid in the automatic transmission, and also the transfer case. I accidentally filled the transfer case with gear oil, at least several thousand miles ago, maybe up to 5k.

I just flushed out the transfer case with the Castrol Transmax ATF for import vehicles, 4 times, with driving at least 40 miles between each drain and fill. Have driven it more than 300 miles now since then, and cannot duplicate the slipping in the transmission. Speedometer has not dropped out, either. Also, when the transmission slipped, the speedometer was gone, too.

I am about to go on a long trip.

Any thoughts on how much damage could have been done to the transfer case? Or if it could be okay?

The magnet on the drain plug in the transfer case only had the faintest amount of metallic buildup on it, and no splintery looking particles.

The oil initially draining from the transfer case was the color of gear oil, of course, maybe with a slightly reddish tint, but barely. The oil draining from the automatic transmission was dark red. I suspect there was not much mixing of fluids, if any.

Thoughts?

Thank you.
