TCROD sound but chain guides ok?
Hi all.
Chad here in New Orleans.
I have an 88 pickup 2wd 22r that, after a new timing cover this past summer has started to make what I can only describe as a metallic rubbing sound from the front of the engine. I’ve ran the engine without belts and the sound persists. Taking the valve cover off, and as far as I can see it, my chain guides are fine. Noise just started this week. My plan was to take a 2000 mile round trip starting Mardi Gras day 2/21, but now I’m nervous, but don’t wanna tear this thing apart again. I was thinking about renting a borescope from the nearest autozone and sticking down to inspect. Any ideas or thoughts?
thanks as always for the responses. Y’all rock.
I caught the Toyota bug 2 years ago, and planning on going to get my next truck, an 87 22r short bed, in March or April. I have a mind lately to throw myself head first into fixing these old trucks, specifically 22r’s. Lacking workspace right now, but working on it!

you are nervous about tearing into it again, but you want to go headlong into fixing them? how does that work?
a borescope probably isn't the best tool to locate the source of the noise. maybe try a stethoscope (or long flat blade screwdriver) to pinpoint the source.

Never said I was nervous about the work. Nervous about a road trip with a noisy 22r. Thanks for the tip?
