carveacre backwards 5/1 this saturday san diego

alright i have a set of 4.88s and a detroit that need a proper break in. carveacre is not a difficult trail but it is challenging in a few spots a locker would make your life easier but it can be done without. there is a optional play area that can be as crazy as you want it to be. the trail is in Alpine off of carveacre road it should take between two to four hours depending on how much slacking off we do.

meeting place: janets montana cafe
2506 alpine blvd

directions: 8 east to tavern rd (right) then immediate left onto alpine blvd. go about 2 miles it's the log cabin looking place on the left

Time: 8am if you want breakfast or 9am if you dont want to eat
feel free to call if you are going to be late 619 279 2177

if the time is not good for everyone feel free to post what might be better i need to be home some time in the mid-afternoon so my wife doesn't kill me

see ya there

Damn, what happened to all the other people that said they were down to go?
I'll probably skip the breakfast for more ZZZZ's but where should we meet when you guys are done? I'm not really sure of the exact way to get to the street we usually come out on.
Who else is going?

Hey guys,
I won't be able to make it out there on Saturday. The road to do it in reverse is actually Carveacre Road I think. Theres a dry creek below on the left of the road.

Ill be fishing Lake Barret on Sunday so I might be doing it that afternoon just for giggles. Not sure what time.. depends on how good the fishing is.

it is carveacre road i know the exact way in so if you are among the late group meet us at the intersection of japatul rd and carveacre rd take 8 east to japatul valley rd go right when you pass lyons valley rd. you will be on japatul rd. just look for carveacre on your left about a mile from lyons valley. we should probably make it there by 9:30

Called my bro and the scout is currently in pieces.

We don't have any shocks in the front anymore... we were waiting for shocks and they haven't arrived yet. I'd say we are now close to a no show.

ended up soloing it. it's really fun backwards i dont think the trail will go all the way through pretty soon. part of the road on the carveacre side is sooooo undercut you have only a few inches left and i dont think it can be filled it's like a 30 ft drop. the detroit and gears absolutely rocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can creep once again. oh well when's the next run?

Hey Mikey, sorry for the no show. I went to the Padre game last night and had a really good time, but paid for it this morning. I slept in until 1:30pm, and I still feel ˟˟˟˟ty.

Mikey...

Sorry you had to solo it. I was driving to work this morning (sick) and saw you going east on the 8. The new arb looks good though.

I probably should have just called in sick and gone with you. I ended up going home around noon. Oh well. Good news is the lift is on its way (waiting for shocks). Hoping to pick up front and rear bumpers this week.

Hey guys,
Here are some shots of Carveacre/Pancake Rock from Lake Barret. It was staring me down all day, but I was way too pooped afterwords to even think about doing it.

Lake Barrett is by far one of the best lakes in SoCal for bass fishing. This past week the lake was averaging about 18 Bass per fishierman. The week before it was about 50.
You actually have to get reservations through Ticketmaster if you want to fish it. When the reservations go on sale they sell out in a half hour. As well as the reservation you need to buy a lake use permit for each person when you get to the lake, and then you can either rent a boat or bring a float tube.
Fishermen have to be escorted in and out on their designated day at a designated time by the city personel since you have to drive through private property. The lake is catch and release on all species and the hooks have to be barbless. They also have duck hunting there during the fall, but I'd rather shoot with a camera.

That's a nice looking fish!!!

Can you fish from the shore or do you have to go from a boat? I have been wanting to learn how to fly fish. Seems like a good location.

Thanks! The bass are usually pretty skinny at this lake, but not this year!

You can fish from the shore at Lake Barrett but it really restricts you from most of the lake. If you want to flyfish the lake it would probably be better from a boat since you need just as much room behind you as infront of you to cast, at least when you're learning.

Probably one of the best places to flyfish in San Diego is at the beach. I always see guys flyfishing for Corbina at Torrey Pines. The Corbina are pretty tricky to catch, but when you do catch one they fight like crazy!

Quick question Rob (blupaddler), are people allowed to drive on the beach to lauch boats on the west side of Mariners point just before the bird sanctuary? I saw tire tracks, but I wasnt sure if it was just from city trucks?

Ill be hitting Mission Bay and Point Loma kelpbeds tomorrow(tue) morning in my yellow yak with yellow/black tigerstripe paddle. I can't wait to see a tourist on a pwc get stopped for hauling butt in the 5mph zone

Josh...

If we are thinking of the same area...Just past the big gazebo thing heading towards the channel. You are not allowed to drive down to the waters edge. Although that parking area does get you really close.

Mikey,
I know you cant bring your own boat but you can bring a float tube or kayak. I saw two kayakers at the lake when I was there, I had no idea you could bring a yak, but I guess you can. I couldn't imagine paddling in 100 degree weather though.

Rob,
Yea, From the water I saw that section is now closed off, no biggie, I always launch from Bahia Point anyways, I was just curious.
Man! That fog caught me off guard on Tuesaday, that stuff was thick!

Party on...

Hey guys,

Long time reader, first time poster

Can anybody tell me where the entrance to carveacre is? If i read correctly, go down japatul rd and the entrance is 1 mile past lyons valley rd?

Is this trail OK to attept solo? I'm guessing a lot of 4x4's go through there on the weekends....
