Clutch pedal bracket question

Clutch pedal bracket question - it's been answered
88 pickup 22r 5-speed DLX - My clutch is tight, meaning if it's not floored completely it's hard to shift and could jam the gears on occasion. It's Always been this way, at least since I have owned it, probably 20k miles. I've had it adjusted once, but my mechanic said it can't be adjusted again because further adjustment could cause a bracket near the pedal to bend, deform. I want to know whether anyone in Yotaland has heard of such a problem? And is it something I need to worry about? Thanks Mike

Take a look at this thread.

It could be that your pedal height needs to be adjusted. It's really easy to adjust the push rod play and easy to get to. The pedal height isn't hard to adjust, but it's hard to get to. It's likely the mechanic adjusted the push rod play to the max, but never touched the pedal height.

My mechanic isn't going to miss something like pedal height.
One possibility is that my bracket is already deformed just enough to make shifting hard. I need to get on top of this and make sure I'm not left by the side of the road.

I had the bracket break on a 91 4runner I used to have. It acted just like you described. It would also make a creaking noise when depressing the clutch. Welded it up reinforced with gussets. The 91 was a pain to get out of there. When I converted my 87 4runner to a manual, I don't recall taking the steering column out like in the 91.

The joint that connects the piston to my clutch pedal broke and caused very similar behavior as well. Took it in for what I thought was a master cylinder seal issue and turned out the linkage broke. More recently the hole the linkage connects to in my pedal arm itself was so warned it had a bunch of play in it. Replaced the pedal assembly and bushings, like brand new now.
