1987 60amp to 70amp alt
I have a 1987 Truck with the 22R and manual transmission that I believe has a bad alternator. I'd like to upgrade from the stock 60amp to a 70amp that came with automatic engines. Is it plug and play or are there mods required?

From Rock Auto they have a manufacturer listing a 60 Amp that they states fits Auto 70 amp / Manual 60 amp. My guess is they have the same connections. Call an auto parts store to see igf the have both and compare before you buy.

RockAuto does have photos of the connectors on almost every version they sell. To my untutored eye, the connector on the optional 70amp alternators looks the same as those on the 60 amp. I'd start by comparing the connector I have to the one in the photo.

I wondered the same question when it came to replacing my 60A alternator on my 87 PU. Other than the fit, what I could not readily tell was whether my existing alternator wire can handle the increased amperage. I ended up staying with a 60A alternator.
