This is my 85 Toyota pickup California custom cab 22r ,it starts out bone stock. I drove this truck one year then started to work on it.
What I did first...
I had 1980 Toyota pickup axles with 5.29 gears and lockers, and about 5 inch lift springs that I put under it. It got a flatbed and bumper. Cut fenders and added bush wacker flair's. After a bunch of lce engine parts, 38-38 Webber, header and stainless 2.25 " lce exhaust, 37" truxis tires, and hydro steering assist, it was a climbing monster. Feb. In Idaho on 3+ ft of snow on top of the mountain

After a bit of time I decided to change it up. Me and my wife are planning a family in the future so..... I'm off to get a Tacoma, or rather to make the yota into a 4 door Tacoma... This is hard info to look up but I found a little bit. I purchased a 95 4runner in good shape. It had a bad motor so I got a good deal on it.
The inside of the 4runner was perfect... A good start. Now for the cutoff wheel. I decided to go with a Toyota Tacoma mega cab....lol ... I have the extended frame with the custom cab 85 so I had the room.
Now for the cab mounts... The front two rows line up and the next two rows I cut off the 4runner. The front bed mount works for the last row. 3 inch body lift blocked and lower the fuel tank 1 inch and it fit.
63" Chevy in back, high steer up front. And a heavy flywheel and better clutch, Disk breaks in back. It's crazy I can't remember all the parts I have put in this old thing.
I was able to keep the same length as the original 85 with factory box. This has been quite a project. What don't work...
tack.... V6 - 4 cyl don't readReverse light switch in transmission
4x4 light switch in transfer case
Everything else works. I'm probably not smart enough to figure that out but I just don't care.
Coming next
Dual transfer case
Have to fab a bracket for AC pump from v6 motor to fit 22r block
what I would do differently
The back tailgate door... I would have built my own back to the cab. Door takes up a lot of room, but the electric windows is nice.
If you have any questions about a similar build please let me know. I can try to help you out
