I can't seem to find much info on how to replace the heater control valve cable. My heater control switch is sticking badly. The heater control valve itself works smoothly. Pretty sure the cable is bad. Does anyone have experience replacing this? Do I just remove the radio below the heater control switch and replace the cable? thanks in advance for any help

 

Make certain the cable routing is correct. The FSM is really bad at showing how cables route properly. A small error in the way the cable is routed can make it stiff, and even break things. Don't ask, but I know this for a fact on the 87's I own...

I think this is what I need to do to change the heater control valve cable.

 

The one in my pickup broke at the slider in the cab. I got the new one, and when everything was ready, ie: I had pulled the little 4-slider panel out a ways, I taped the new cable to the old one, and pulled the new one IN, as I was pulling the old one OUT. Kinda like using the old cable as a fishtape to route the new one properly. Worked great! I didn't have to take the dash all apart to do it, either.

As long as you DO have it all apart, though, look carefully at the routing of the old cable before you pull it out. Make certain that when you put the new one in, it follows the routing exactly. If you don't, chances are it will bind up someplace, and probably break the new one pretty quickly. Like I said, the FSM is lousy at showing the routing of cables.
