Gas Tank

Gas Tank
I am getting ready to drop the gas tank on my 94 pickup 4x4 DLX pickup. Going to do the Fuel Pump. The factory pump is original and I figure its time. A New gas tank through rock auto is some 150-200 bucks. Once I drop it, should I consider replacing it or wash and go ?
Anything else I may run into while doing this ?

when I went to do my pump, I found the hard lines between the tank and the filter had rusted out, as well as the the top of the tank, and the fuel gauge's sender...I replaced everything...and I'm in the process of going for -6AN braided fuel lines from the tank to the engine to replace the rest of the hard lines on the truck
of course my '89 truck also spent many years driving the salt covered winter roads of NJ, before I came to my senses and drug it down to a much warmer and sunnier AZ a couple of years ago...so your rust issues will most likely be far less in TX

It is a much better and easier idea to remove the bed instead of dropping the tank. Two guys can have the bed off in 30 min or less. They are not very heavy. Their is a good chance the hard lines at the pump bracket are rusted out. Some people have removed the old lines from the bracket and soldered in new lines. Toyota uses a goofy threaded fitting for the high pressure line, I am not sure off the top of my head what size it is but its likely very rusted. Inside the tank the fuel pump has a short piece of rubber hose between the pump and the hard lines. Replace this rubber line with new efi rated fuel line.
