1986 v6 4runner: transmission?

This seems like an odd beast. Even Marlin's transmission list does not cover it.
Which transmission did the 1986 v6 4runner come with?

Thanks.

There's no such thing as a 1986 V6 4Runner.

the 4runner wasn’t available with a v6 until 1988. that’s why the marlin list doesn’t cover it.

Both Motor trend and Motor Biscuit say V6's where available in pickups in 1986.
I got confused on the 4runner aspect.

They are both wrong. Actually, there is other things in those articles that are also wrong. Toyota did not release their first V6 engine (3VZ-E) for either the trucks or 4Runners until the 1988 model year. Before that, the pickup trucks and 4runners only had the R series 4 cylinder engines.

You overlook the diesels available in many world markets. including Canada.

As mentioned above, both are wrong.

Diesels are moot. We all know they exist but they weren't available so no one really cares.

A 2nd Gen JDM Surf/4runner with a 3.0L diesel caught my attention while I was shopping for my '91 Xtracab. The RHD and the price were the only issues. I wouldn't mind a diesel if it were an option. I would consider doing a 1KZ-TE3.0L diesel swap once the 3vze gives up.

They're cool to look at, sure. But if you have a 3vze rig, definitely do a 3.4 swap. Efficient, readily available, huge aftermarket support, gas.

I investigated the 3.4L while shopping for my Tundra replacement and the timing belt replacement scared me. The 3.0 in comparison is a piece of cake. The is 3.4 is a better engine though.
I'm hoping the 3.0 lasts for while still. I only have 141K so far.
I had an '86 4runner from '88 to '92. I wished it was a V6. It had an automatic so it was a real dog.

Oops. Yes, I did overlook the diesel engine Choices..

But, I didn't think any were in the V6 configuration, so I really wasn't thinking about diesels.

from such impeccable sources, you ought to be able to find your answer as to what transmission came behind the 1986 v6 in the pickup or 4runner.

I haven't heard of any V6 diesels offered in a Toyota pickup.
