I recently rebuilt the motor and did an EFI swap on the truck. When doing the EFI swap I deleted the entire EGR system. The IAC valve was also deleted when doing the swap. The IAC valve that came with the EFI parts was junk, and I was missing parts to complete the system since I did the EGR delete.
The truck had some issues with not wanting to idle and it took a bit to get things figured out. A buddy of mine came over and did some adjustments on the inside of the MAF. The truck was running great and was idling without issues. I took the truck out on a wheeling trip and it was running great. I was cruising around and checking things out in the desert and the truck felt great. Later the next day I was wheeling up a trail bouncing around a bit when I stalled out.
After stalling out I started the truck up and finished the climb. Once I got to the top of the water fall I went to come to a stop and the truck died. I fired it up and gave it some gas and it reved up without issues. As soon as I let me foot off the pedal the truck idled down and finally died. For the rest of the day I had to keep my foot slightly on the gas pedal to keep it from dying out.
I've gone over a few things and can't see anything that has changed visually. Everything is still plugged in, no signs of any vacuum leaks. I took the cover off the MAF and looked around and couldn't see anything that changed from the adjustments my friend made. I tried adjusting the dial myself but didn't notice any change.
One of the things I did mess with made a difference and allowed for the truck to idle like it should. I'm not sure on how to adjust it.
What would cause this part to need adjustment in this manner? It almost seems like the door isn't opening to the MAF until I adjust this part by hand and have someone else start the truck. As soon as I let go, it closes back and shuts off. Held open, truck idles fine. Released, truck wont stay running and dies
There's a switch in the MAF that energizes the "run" side of the COR when the door is open, even a very small amount. Like at idle. If the switch got mis-adjusted while tweaking the MAF, and is no longer closed at the idle position of the MAF's door, it won't idle.
Check it very carefully. The switch should close when the door is open, even a very slight amount. BUT: Make certain the switch opens as soon as the door closes completely. This will de-energize the COR when the engine stops. Like during an accident. It ensures the fuel pump doesn't run without the engine running, so you don't pump fuel out of broken lines. Deadly fire hazard.
