KC Daylighters and Voltage

I'm thinking about putting 4 KC Daylighters on my 89 4x4 single cab 22RE. While LED's are cool, they're not cheap. About $650 as compared to $425 for halogens. My question is how will LED's compare to halogens as far as amperage draw? Will I need a bigger alternator to drive the halogens? Where would I find the proper alternator? And which is better for off road driving: spread beam or spot? Has anyone tried this?

Certain that a halogen array will draw more current than a LED array wiil. Maybe you'd need a different alternator, maybe not.

That's just talk until you give the specifications of the lights you intend to install.

Spot is of limited use off road, unless it's handheld.

Good info. Thanks. I'll start researching voltage.

Not voltage, current.

The watts the lamps draw can be used to determine amp draw, if ampere draw is not specified.

Amps = watts/volts

For example a 100w bulb: 100w/12v=8.33amps

there are LED's out there that your electrical system will be much happier with that will not set you back as much as $450 for a set of KC halogens'
That being said the light out put from LED's vs. 1980's technologies is an improvement.

get on youtube and look at video's showing the differences you are looking for. What someone likes to use could be totally different that what you find acceptable.
I have a light bar on my truck but personally i hate the glare of roof mounted lights because it tends to fill the hood with light but i look cool at the mall.
