92 4Runner 3.0 Bad clanking sound in bell housing
Hey guys, so i have a SAS 92 4runner with the 3vz, just had a new tranny, marlin crawler clutch kit/throwout bearing and napa flywheel put in about 6 months ago. Haven't driven the truck much since, maybe 3-4k miles and 1 wheeling trip. I drove the truck to work the other day, and when i came to stop this awful metal on metal clanking sound came from the bottom of the truck. I panicked, pulled it over and turned it off, looked under the truck and saw nothing. Turned it back on and it didn't make that noise anymore. So i drove the rest of the way to work at 25mph. When i got to work i looked everywhere under the truck and couldn't find anything wrong, so i just chalked it up to something bouncing into drive shaft that fell off. I left work and drove it home, and same thing happened when i pulled to a stop this gnarly clanking sound again. So i pulled over and this time left the car on and went under the truck and felt around the oil pan and tranny, and felt the vibration of something hitting around right at my bell housing, i also noticed there's a 3 inch or so opening at the bottom of the bell housing tjat i could stick my finger in and touch the flywheel. Could something have jumped into my tranny? If so, how do i get it out without dropping the whole tranny? Need advice, cause i absolutely love driving this truck and want to asap. Thanks!

If a foreign object got into the bell housing by entering that hole, it is likely that it will come back out that way.
You might fish some with a magnet on a stick.
It is just as likely that some bolt in there was not tightened, and it has fallen out. Magnet is still the likely answer.
Good luck!!
