Question 86 Pickup loses power after driving a while

My '86 4WD pickup loses power after driving for over 2 hrs, the throttle gets jumpy and can't do over 55. It also has a hard time starting from time to time, the engine will flood and I'll have to wait about 20 min to start up. It sat for about 20 years before I bought it, but I'm new to engines and don't have much experience, so I figured I'd come on here and see what the experts on 22r motors think. From what I've read it seems that it could be a vacuum problem. I was wondering if this is true and any specifics about what it could be. For context, I've replaced the alternator, starter, and radiator (after an overheat).

Thanks.

Just what work has been done to the fuel system to over come the gas going bad in the tank after sitting 20 years .

Unless the complete fuel system was drained.

you are talking the 22R the carburetor version not the 22REC fuel injection

Flooding on the 22R bad needle valve dumping gas on a constant basis till the fuel pressure drops .

When the engine is shut off what ever intake valves are open will get gas in the cylinders or if all the intake valves are worn all the cylinders.

Check that fuel is not leaking past the rings into the oil .

Power loss after two hours sounds like a heat related ignition program.

Heat Soak hot enough to cause a vacuum leak do you notice a higher then normal idle?

Good Luck
