First off, Im very new to mechanics as a whole so please bare with. Im currently replacing some vacuum lines and ran into these parts that I cant seem to find any reference of them on the vac hose diagrams or in the haynes guide. Please could someone help me identify them (and possibly some info as to where the lines should go to).
First picture is maybe some sort of air flow/temp sensor on the air filter housing and not sure what im looking at in second picture, but they both go in that adapter which splits the line into one of the small pipes just to the right and the other off into a pipe on the carby.
Well I know nothing about your truck in particular, so take this with a grain of salt.
The first picture, I see only vacuum lines running to that "thing", so I doubt it is a temperature sensor...I see one line going to it is plugged with a bolt, so whatever it is, looks like it is currently not hooked up.
The second picture, those are vacuum switching valves (aka VSVs). They are electrically operated vacuum switches. On our US spec engines, there is 1 VSV that switches in some vacuum to raise the idle when the AC is on, there is another VSV for the fuel pressure regulator, and I think there may be 1 more on the US engines, but I can't remember what it is for.
You could try turning your AC on and off to see if one of those VSVs is clicking, that would tell you if one of them is for the AC idle up.
Welcome to YotaTech. I know even less than coryc85 about carbureted trucks. The two Vacuum Switching valves in the second photo probably drive the ADD in the front differential. The line that goes "through" the apron goes to a reserve tank behind the fender line. I can't help on the first photo.
You should have a sticker under the hood with the vacuum routing. Is any of it left?
@coryc85 Yeah I believe the guy before me has bypassed something because a few of these lines are all over the place when comparing to the vac hose info sticker. The line coming off the sensor was going into a VSV on the other side of the engine bay. But according to the diagram it should be going into the gas filter (this is with me assuming that where it says “air cleaner” is referring to the air filter housing). Have given the A/C a go and I don’t to hear anything from any of the VSV's, which would explain why my A/C isn't working ahah. Seems like another problem that I'll deal with along the way.
@scope103 yep a little damaged but it is still there, scanned it and have attached below. So it references the other VSV's (3 on that side) but there’s not reference of the 2 VSVs on the other side. I had no idea what ADD was before now so Ill get to researching, was always curious as to what that container was in the wheel arch as well. so that's good to know its the reserve thanks
