95" 4runer 3.0l Lacks power during warm up.
#1
Hey guys,
Ive got a 1995 4runner 3vze AUTO (3.0L) which I drive almost daily.
For the past year or so now, I have noticed a severe lack of power or almost a bogging feeling ONLY when the temperature gauge moves from cold to normal operating temperature while accelerating.(Thermostat Opens)
I notice this often because I have to drive up a large and very steep hill every morning and if I don't allow the vehicle to heat up to operating temperature prior, My temperature gauge will begin to move and the vehicle will begin to "Choke" -> Input from accelerator pedal wont increase RPM much, however the vehicle wont stall it will just very slowly chug up the hill almost as if its stuck in a high gear.
Even if I am not on a steep incline and the vehicle begins that portion of the "warm-up cycle" where the temp gauge begins to move off cold, acceleration will be very sluggish only until the vehicle is up to temp.
This if is even more pronounced when trying to accelerate from a stop, as the vehicle struggles to get any speed while only achieving 2500 or so rpm.
It almost feels as if during its choking if you press the accelerator pedal more it chokes more, and if you let off you can gain some RPM, but I cannot be Certain of that. This does not feel to me like a misfire issue, It feels more like a fuel or air issue and the 4Runner runs very well otherwise.
I have done some work on the vehicle in the past years including -> Head gasket + Timing belt kit, EGR delete, Aftermarket air intake kit, and a few other things.
Maybe someone has had a similar experience or some advice where I can begin diagnosing this.
