Exhaust Placement for Protection from Off-Road Elements

Planning on a bigger exhaust, either 2.5" or 3" (It's a turbo diesel) and the shop I'm planning on going to doesn't typically do installs for off road applications. I'm hoping to hear other peoples ideas on how to better protect the exhaust from banging it up on rocks when off road. The main area of concern that im thinking of is the rear end of it, when im at an extremely steep departure angle. My initial thoughts were to have it as high as i can, and then when it comes out it could be coming down at an angle with an angle cut, something like this? Anyone have any other input on this topic? Apologize for my MS paint skills.

Every exhaust I’ve seen that exits out the rear gets hammered Offroad. These girls like to drag their butts. Mine exits to infront of the driver side shackle mount of rear spring. Pointed downwards and trimmed so it doesn’t stick out past side protection of rear bumper. I don’t have a vehicle inspection by state where I live. 2.5” from muffle back. Have all exhaust tucked up high. If it’s possible that you’ll want to do any rear suspension mods have exhaust placed accordingly.

Also, a side exit will help keep exhaust fumes from getting sucked inside if you roll down the back window. The details are somewhat dependant on your spring/shackle/bumper clearance, but generally there's room to sneak it out between the spring and frame and exit sideways right under the rear edge of the wheel well.
